About Dr. Ethan Marler
Evidence-informed chiropractic care focused on movement, function, and confidence
Dr. Ethan Marler, Chiropractor, takes a function-focused approach to chiropractic care.
His goal is not only to help patients feel less pain. His goal is to help people move better, understand what is happening, and return to the activities that matter in their daily lives.
For some patients, that means getting back to running, training, lifting, golfing, or recreational sport. For others, it means being able to sit at work, sleep comfortably, drive without restriction, lift their kids, play with their grandkids, or get through the day without constantly thinking about pain.
Dr. Marler’s approach is built around a simple idea:
Pain matters, but function matters too.
His care is grounded in current evidence, guided by each patients goals, and focused on helping people feel informed, confident, and supported throughout the process.
A movement-focused approach to chiropractic care
Dr. Marler has a strong interest in how the body moves.
Rather than looking only at the painful area, he considers how joints, muscles, movement patterns, daily habits, work demands, and activity levels may all be contributing to the issue.
A patient may come in with low back pain, but the full picture may include the pelvis, hips, strength, mobility, sitting tolerance, training load, or how they return to activity after symptoms calm down.
A patient may come in with neck pain, but the full picture may include desk posture, stress, jaw tension, sleep position, shoulder tension, or how long they stay in one position throughout the day.
The goal is to understand the person, not just the symptom.
More than a quick adjustment
Dr. Marler believes chiropractic care can involve more than short visits and quick adjustments.
Depending on the patient, care may include:
chiropractic adjustments,
soft tissue therapy,
shockwave therapy,
mobility work,
exercise recommendations,
rehabilitation strategies,
movement assessment,
and patient education.
Dr. Marler places a strong emphasis on soft tissue care because muscles influence how joints move. If muscles are tight, irritated, overloaded, or not tolerating demand well, they can affect movement and contribute to recurring symptoms.
What Guides Dr. Marler’s Care
Dr. Marler’s approach is guided by a few core principles:
Evidence informed and personalized
The research guides us; your goals lead us.
The research matters, but so does the person in front of him. Dr. Marler uses an evidence informed approach while considering each patient’s symptoms, goals, activity level, and daily demands.
Looking beyond the painful area
Symptoms are not always as simple as “where does it hurt”. A patient may feel pain in one area while the contributing factors involves another joint, muscle group, movement pattern, or workload issue.
Goal-centered care
Treatment should connect back to what the patient actually wants to do — whether that is running a 10K, returning from injury, working without pain, lifting confidently, or getting through daily life with less restriction.
Function over pain alone
Pain is important, but it is not the only measure of progress. Dr. Marler also looks at what a patient can do, what they are avoiding, and what they want to return to.
Education patients can use
Dr. Marler wants patients to understand what is happening, why a treatment plan is being recommended, and what they can do outside the clinic to support recovery.
He believes treatment plans should be clear, actionable strategies so patient’s understand their body and feel in control of their progress.
Hello Everyone, I am Dr. Ethan Marler.
Inside the clinic I aim to inspire and empower people to live active, pain-free lives, by helping them stay resilient and ready for whatever comes next.
Born and raised in Sherwood Park, I grew up playing hockey, basketball, track & field, and cross‑country, but playing soccer was my real passion and I played competitively until leaving for school in Portland.
Nowadays, when I’m not in the clinic, you’ll still find me on the field but playing slightly less competitively, weight training, running, playing video games, or anxiously watching the Edmonton Oilers.

Helping patients understand what is happening
Many patients arrive at a chiropractic appointment without a clear explanation of what is going on, why they hurt, what their treatment plan is, or what they should expect.
Dr. Marler sees education as part of care.
He wants patients to understand:
what may be contributing to their symptoms,
what treatment is intended to do,
what they can do between visits,
what progress may look like,
and when another approach or referral may be appropriate.
Patients who ask questions are often a strong fit for his approach because they are engaged in the process. Dr. Marler wants patients to be active participants in their own recovery, not passive recipients of treatment.
Care for active people and everyday movement
Dr. Marler enjoys helping active people, including runners, lifters, golfers, recreational athletes, and people who simply want to keep doing the activities they enjoy.
But “active” does not have to mean competitive.
It can mean wanting to walk comfortably, work without constant irritation, play with your kids, move around the house, garden, travel, or feel more confident in your body.
Dr. Marler’s goal is to help patients build capacity, confidence, and resilience so they can handle the demands of real life.
